IT BEGINS
Today I saw and reintroduced myself to Lake Superior, aka Mother Superior, it’s been two years since I last saw her, felt her cold, cold waters, walked along her rocky shoreline. I feel most alive when I’m with her.
One is never enough for me when it comes to her but I know I’ll be seeing her vast size and deep moody beauty from lookouts and ridges along this trail for the next days to come.I met Marci at Tettigouche SP where I left my car. I’ll be hiking the 120+miles to it.
I dropped off my resupply boxes-one in Lutsen and one at my Trail Angel/IG friend, Sarah’s, in Grand Marais. She lives a 1/2 mile from a trail head. Such a little blessing she is.
We ate great food at The Angry Trout, drove to Grand Portage just because and headed to Magney SP where we’d spend the night.
This SP is the former site of a 1920’s WPA camp. It was built to provide homeless (houseless) and down-on-luck men a place to live. They worked in the forest, fought fires, etc. the foundations of the buildings are still here.
The woods are dense and I am getting a feel for how totally remote and rugged this place is. I’m in for more than I ever dreamed of I think. The cell service I have will only get worse and I dive into the deep deep dark of the North Shore.
Marci will be with me for three days.
Praying for God and wonder spottings all along your way! Hope the rain has stopped! Stay strong, Kate! Along with Marci and your constant Heavenly guide and protector, you’ve got this! 🙏❤️
ReplyDeleteAgain, I loved the thought of the WPA camp. Lake Superior is indeed a daunting expanse. How nice to have a trail companion for a few days. I hope this trek is everything you hoped it would be when you started planning it. Looking so forward to your posts whenever it’s possible,
ReplyDeleteYou are continually on the minds and in the thoughts, prayers of your “herd” of pickleball friends, sending positive energy for strength and resourcefulness. You’ve got this!
ReplyDeleteSending thoughts for strong legs and sure footing. I'm in awe! 😍
